MASCULIN / FÉMININ
MALE / FEMALE

Directed by Julie Duclos

Created on September 19, 2012
at Théâtre de l'Opprimé

“And right now, are you defending a situation?"

Diving into a creative process in motion, Male/Female is a work in progress where filmed, recorded, or photographed portraits, personal or imaginary stories, autofiction and quotes from authors ranging from Godard to Koltès and Paul Auster to Sophie Calle, produce a live experience.

In this workshop/laboratory, a group of friends - three women and three men - work at experimenting, investigating, and exploring the issues of desire, body and sexual identity, parts played by the actor, as well as the question of how the others see us and the boundaries between reality and fiction.

Based on actual situations - an argument between two lovers, an interview with a young actress and escort girl, an investigation into exchanges between clients and prostitutes - a space is crafted, multifaceted – a place for sharing a variety of experiences, which, put together, sketch out a complex vision of our society.

Reviews

“The wonder of this show is its freedom, its willingness to take risks by inventing itself on stage, in an everyday setting that alternates between wanders and moments of great beauty."

Laurent Deburge
Toute la culture.com

“A touching show, performed by a team of promising actors who we will surely hear more about in the future."

Tiana Krivokapic
Le souffleur

“A winning bet by In-quarto company, which will delight those who like to be carried away by the blurred lines that creativity readily draws between truth and lies, objectivity and subjectivity, superficiality and depth."

Michel Voiturier
Rue du Théâtre

“If the ambition of this company is to 'be part of theater in the making' and to 'take over,' it must be acknowledged that the challenge has been met and the place is well deserved."

Olivier Pernot
À nous

“Julie Duclos invites us to discover theatre created live, based on reflections on the body, desire, and sexual identity."
